Climate Change – Plantation Program

Restoring Nature. Rebuilding the Future.

About the Project

GRDO’s Climate Change – Plantation Program is a long-standing environmental initiative launched in 2009 with the mission to reverse the impact of deforestation and promote ecological sustainability. Designed to tackle climate degradation at the grassroots level, this program mobilizes communities to plant trees, protect natural ecosystems, and contribute actively to the fight against climate change.

With increasing global temperatures, air pollution, and loss of biodiversity, the need for urgent environmental action is more critical than ever. GRDO addresses this challenge with a simple but powerful solution — tree by tree, village by village.

Our Mission

To increase green cover and build climate-resilient communities by involving local stakeholders, youth, and volunteers in afforestation and environmental awareness activities.

Project Reach and Progress

Since its inception, the Plantation Program has grown into a movement spanning multiple districts in Uttar Pradesh. Here’s a look at the program’s progress so far:

  • Total Saplings Planted: 87,000+

  • Geographical Coverage: 65+ villages across 6 districts

  • Years Active: 15+

  • Community Volunteers Engaged: 5,200+

  • Estimated Carbon Sequestration: 162 tons of CO₂ annually

  • Tree Survival Rate: ~78% (monitored over 12 months post-plantation)

The program emphasizes the plantation of native, climate-resilient species such as Neem, Peepal, Banyan, and Arjuna, ensuring both ecological compatibility and long-term impact.

What We Do

  • Seasonal Plantation Drives: Conducted during monsoon and post-monsoon periods in schools, roadsides, open lands, and institutional premises.

  • Environmental Education: Workshops for school children, farmers, and SHGs on climate change, pollution control, and conservation.

  • Youth Engagement: Creation of “Green Ambassador” teams in local schools and colleges to sustain environmental responsibility.

  • Partnerships: Collaborations with local panchayats, Forest Department, educational institutions, and civil society groups to ensure outreach and post-care.

Impact You Can See

  • 120+ hectares of degraded land revitalized through plantation efforts.

  • 25,000+ school children and youth sensitized through environmental sessions.

  • First signs of biodiversity return observed in plantation zones after 3+ years.

  • Villages like Dhanaura, Baraut, and Ganjipur have recorded improved air quality and increased tree cover on satellite surveys.

Beyond ecological benefits, the program has inspired community ownership, especially among rural women, who now lead post-care efforts and awareness drives in several clusters.

Community Voices

“Before GRDO’s plantation drive, our village had barely any shade. Today, our children walk to school under tree-lined paths. It’s made our summers bearable again.”
Sunita Devi, Women’s SHG Leader, Ganjipur Village

“We planted 100 trees during our school’s eco-campaign with GRDO. It was my first time planting anything — now I check on ‘my’ tree every day.”
Aarav Singh, Class 8 Student
